Introduction
Natlan, the Nation of Pyro and the sixth major region in Genshin Impact, released in Version 5.0 with a fundamentally different exploration paradigm. Unlike previous nations where exploration was limited by stamina and Elemental Sight, Natlan introduces Saurian Indwelling—the ability to possess dragon-like creatures native to the region. Each of Natlan's six tribes has a unique Saurian species that enables specific traversal mechanics: rock climbing, water surfing, grappling hook traversal, high-speed ground sprints, aerial flight, and underwater currents.
Natlan's combat introduces the Night Soul system—a unique energy mechanic for Natlan characters that replaces standard Energy partially with Phlogiston-based state management. The Tablet of Tona replaces the traditional Offering System, and Reputation is spread across six individual tribes rather than a single regional commission board.
This guide covers everything: how to unlock Natlan (requirements and optimal path), the complete Saurian Indwelling system with all six forms, Night Soul mechanics for the full Natlan character roster, World Boss locations (including post-5.0 additions), and the Collective of Plenty reputation system.
How to Unlock Natlan
Prerequisites
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Adventure Rank | AR 28+ (minimum) |
| Archon Quest | Complete Chapter IV: Act VI — "Bedtime Story" (Fontaine finale) |
| World Quest | Automatically triggers "Natlan! A New Adventure!" upon approaching the region |
| Statue of the Seven | Unlock any Natlan Statue of the Seven to reveal the map |
| Teleport Waypoints | Automatically unlocked near the entrance from Sumeru's Desert of Hadramaveth |
Fastest Route to Natlan
- Complete the Fontaine Archon Quest through Act V ("Masquerade of the Guilty"). Act VI ("Bedtime Story") is a short epilogue that officially grants you passage.
- Teleport to the Statue of the Seven nearest to Sumeru's Desert of Hadramaveth — the waypoint at Bayt Al-Sukkar or the northernmost Desert waypoint.
- Head west past the sandstorm barrier. A cutscene triggers when you approach the Natlan border, opening the path.
- Unlock the first Natlan Statue of the Seven to sync Pyro Traveler and reveal the region map.
- Unlock all visible Teleport Waypoints — there are 8 waypoints on the initial map segment (Version 5.0 release area).
What Level Should You Be?
At AR 28, Natlan enemies scale to approximately Level 55-65 (World Level 3-4). The region is designed to be playable immediately after Fontaine without significant grinding. World Bosses (Level 72-93 depending on World Level) are manageable with a level 70-80 Fontaine team.
Recommended: AR 35+ with at least one Level 70 DPS before attempting the Natlan Archon Quest's boss sequence. The 5.0 finale involves a significantly longer combat gauntlet than previous Archon Quests.
The Saurian Indwelling System
Saurian Indwelling allows you to possess ("indwell") a Saurian creature by interacting with a glowing orange Saurian relic found throughout Natlan. While indwelling, you control the Saurian directly and gain its movement abilities. Each of the six Natlan tribes has one Saurian species.
How to Indwell
- Find a Saurian Relic — glowing orange stone formations scattered across the region (marked on the minimap with a claw icon).
- Approach and press the interact key (F on keyboard, corresponding controller button).
- Your character "transforms" — you now control the Saurian. Your HP, Phlogiston gauge, and abilities change to the Saurian's.
- To exit, press the indwell key again or the Saurian will automatically exit when:
- Phlogiston reaches zero
- You come into contact with deep water (most Saurians can't swim)
- You press the exit key
Phlogiston — The Saurian Energy Gauge
All Saurian abilities consume Phlogiston, represented by an orange bar below the Saurian's HP.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Maximum | Varies by Saurian type (100-150 base). Increases with Tablet of Tona level. |
| While indwelling | Passively drains at ~1 unit per second (ambient consumption). Abilities drain 10-30 units each. |
| Recharging | Collect Phlogiston particles from orange vents, crystal formations, and defeated Natlan enemies. Saurian relics automatically grant full Phlogiston on indwell. |
| Depleted | Saurian automatically exits. You must collect Phlogiston and indwell again. |
Tribe 1: Children of Echoes — Tepetlisaur (Geo/Rock)
| Ability | Input | Phlogiston Cost | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rock Climb | Jump against cliff face | 0 (passive) | Scale vertical rock walls marked with orange veins |
| Rock Spike | Normal Attack | 15 | Launch a rock projectile. Breaks boulders blocking paths. |
| Tunneling | Hold Skill | 25/sec | Burrow into marked ground and emerge at connected exit point |
| Seismic Slam | Plunge from height | 20 | AoE Geo damage on landing. Stuns nearby enemies. |
Key Usage: Essential for reaching Pyroculi on cliff faces and inside rock formations. The rock spike projectile is required to break certain Phlogiston barriers and Ore deposits exclusive to Natlan.
Tribe 2: People of the Springs — Koholasaur (Hydro/Water)
| Ability | Input | Phlogiston Cost | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Water Sprint | Sprint on water surface | 8/sec | Run across open water. Faster than swimming. |

| Bubble Shield | Hold Attack | 25 | Create a water bubble that blocks one projectile |
Key Usage: Mandatory for traversing the massive inland lake and coastal areas of the People of the Springs territory. Aqua Jet reaches areas normal swimming cannot. Many underwater caves and Pyroculi are only accessible via Koholasaur.
Tribe 3: Scions of the Canopy — Yumkasaur (Dendro/Grapple)

| Glide Boost | Jump + Glide | 10 | Mid-air horizontal boost while gliding |
Key Usage: The most versatile traversal Saurian. Grapple points are scattered across all of Natlan (not just Canopy territory). The Yumkasaur's zipline ability connects the upper and lower levels of the canopy villages. Glide Boost extends your aerial range significantly when combined with the Red Feather Fan.
Tribe 4: Flower-Feather Clan — Qucusaur (Anemo/Flight)
| Ability | Input | Phlogiston Cost | Use |

| Thermal Lift | Fly over hot air vents | 0 (passive) | Gain altitude with zero Phlogiston cost over orange vents |
Key Usage: The Qucusaur is the crown jewel of Natlan exploration. Flight enables you to reach floating islands, mountaintop Pyroculi, and vantage points for gliding. Thermal Lifts create an aerial highway across the Flower-Feather Clan's territory. Combine with Red Feather Fan for extended air time.
Tribe 5: Masters of the Night-Wind — Iktomisaur (Cryo/Scan)
| Ability | Input | Phlogiston Cost | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Night Scan | Hold Skill | 10/sec | Reveal hidden objects, graffiti, and Phlogiston veins through walls |

Key Usage: The Iktomisaur is the puzzle-solver. Night Scan reveals hidden messages, chest locations, and the solution to graffiti puzzles throughout the Night-Wind territory. Phase Walk lets you pass through walls that block all other Saurian types.
Tribe 6: Collective of Plenty — Tatankasaur (Pyro/Charge)
| Ability | Input | Phlogiston Cost | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ground Charge | Hold Sprint | 20/sec | High-speed dash that breaks through barricades and weak walls |

| General combat (fast travel + damage) | Tatankasaur (highest damage) or Yumkasaur (fastest ground travel) |
Night Soul System — Natlan Characters
All characters from Natlan have a unique Night Soul (NS) mechanic instead of the standard Elemental Burst energy system. Night Soul replaces traditional Energy Recharge with Phlogiston-based state management.
Night Soul Fundamentals
| Property | Description |
|---|---|
| Night Soul Gauge | Appears as an orange bar alongside HP. Max varies per character (50-120 NS points). |
| Gaining NS | Natlan characters gain Night Soul from their Elemental Skills, normal attacks during Blessing state, and collecting Phlogiston particles. |
| Blessing State | When a Natlan character reaches 100% NS gauge, they enter "Blessing State" — enhanced attacks, increased damage, and alternate skill effects. |
| Depletion | NS passively drains during Blessing state (~8-12 NS/sec). When depleted, the character exits Blessing state. |
| Burst Activation | Natlan characters do not use Elemental Burst charges. Instead, their Burst costs a flat amount of NS (typically 40-60) and has no cooldown (only limited by NS availability). |
Natlan Character Night Soul Mechanics
| Character | NS Max | Blessing Effect | NS Burst Cost | Key Mechanic |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mavuika (5★ Pyro Archon, Claymore) | 120 | All attacks become Pyro-infused. Charged Attacks become Sun Wheel (spinning disc). | 50 | Sun Wheel orbit damage. C2 increases Phlogiston regeneration. |
| Kinich (5★ Dendro, Claymore) | 100 | Normal Attacks fire Dendro projectiles. Scales with ATK. | 45 | Ranged Dendro DPS with AoE. Blessing state gives infinite Dendro application. |
| Mualani (5★ Hydro, Catalyst) | 100 | Surfs on a shark-shaped wave. Normal Attacks become Hydro-infused surf attacks. Move speed +80%. | 50 | Unique Hydro catalyst with traversal integration. |
| Xilonen (5★ Geo, Sword) | 80 | Geo constructs gain Night Soul damage bonus. Creates crystal platforms. | 40 | Geo sub-DPS/support. Platforms enable vertical traversal. |
| Chasca (5★ Anemo, Bow) | 90 | Charged Attacks become Anemo-infused piercing arrows. AoE suction on hit. | 40 | Anemo DPS with crowd control. |
| Iansan (4★ Electro, Polearm) | 70 | Attacks chain Electro between enemies. Increased attack speed in Blessing. | 35 | Electro sub-DPS. Fast attacker with AoE chain. |
| Citlali (4★ Cryo, Catalyst) | 70 | Creates Cryo shields that pulse AoE damage. Increased shield strength in Blessing. | 35 | Cryo shielder/support. |
| Ororon (4★ Electro, Bow) | 75 | Charged Shots become Electro-infused AoE. Increased arrow velocity. | 30 | Ranged Electro DPS. Fast charged shots. |
Night Soul Team Synergy
All Natlan characters in the party contribute to a shared "Collective of Plenty" passive: each Natlan character in the party increases Phlogiston regeneration rate by 10% (max 40% with 4 Natlan characters). Additionally, when any Natlan character exits Blessing state, all Natlan party members gain 15 Night Soul. This enables rapid rotation cycling — Character A enters Blessing, depletes NS, exits → others gain 15 NS → Character B enters Blessing, and so on.
Tablet of Tona — Natlan's Offering System
The Tablet of Tona is located at the Stadium of the Sacred Flame, Natlan's central hub. It accepts Pyro Sigils (obtained from chests, quests, and exploration in Natlan).
Rewards (Ongoing — Version 5.x)
| Level Range | Pyro Sigils per Level | Key Rewards |
|---|---|---|
| 1-10 | 30 each | Primogems, Intertwined Fates, Pyroculus Resonance Stones |
| 11-20 | 30 each | Talent Books (Natlan series), Character EXP |
| 21-30 | 30 each | Mora, Weapon Ascension Materials, Billets |
| 31-40 | 30 each | Crown of Insight (at 40), Natlan Namecard, additional Saurian Phlogiston capacity |
| 41-50 | (Pending map expansions beyond 5.x) | Additional rewards TBD |
Note: The Tablet of Tona's maximum level increases with each Natlan map expansion. As of Version 5.x, the cap is expected to reach 50 after the final Natlan area release (similar to Sacred Sakura, Tree of Dreams, and Fountain of Lucine).

Collective of Plenty Reputation
Unlike previous regions where Reputation was managed by a single NPC, Natlan distributes Reputation across the six tribes. Each tribe has an Obsidian Ring that tracks your standing.
Tribe Reputation Levels
| Level | EXP Required (per tribe) | Cumulative Rewards |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 200 | Tribe Namecard background, 50 Primogems |
| 2 | 400 | Saurian Traversal Upgrade (faster speed, lower Phlogiston cost for that tribe's Saurian) |
| 3 | 600 | Pyro Treasure Compass Blueprint (unlocked at any tribe Level 4) |
| 4 | 800 | Tribe-exclusive Weapon Blueprint, 100 Primogems |
| 5 | 1,000 | Saurian Combat Upgrade (higher damage + new ability for that tribe's Saurian) |
| 6 | 1,200 | Tribe Namecard (equipped), 150 Primogems, Special Dish Recipe |
How to Gain Reputation EXP

|---|---|---|
| Tribe Bounties | 60-100 | 3 per week (shared across all tribes) |
| Tribe Requests | 40-80 | 3 per week |
| World Quests (per tribe) | 100-300 | One-time |
| Explore tribal territory (chest %) | 20 per 10% exploration milestone | One-time per milestone |
| Complete Tribe-specific Challenges | 50-100 | One-time per challenge |
Weekly Cap
You can complete 3 Bounties and 3 Requests per week total across all six tribes. Focus on one or two tribes at a time rather than spreading Reputation EXP thinly.
Which Tribe to Prioritize
| Priority | Tribe | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Collective of Plenty (Tatankasaur) | Level 5 gives Tatankasaur combat upgrade — highest Saurian combat damage. Useful for farming. |
| 2 | Flower-Feather Clan (Qucusaur) | Level 2 gives Qucusaur flight speed upgrade — most impactful exploration upgrade. |
| 3 | Scions of the Canopy (Yumkasaur) | Level 4 unlocks Pyro Treasure Compass blueprint. Grapple speed upgrade at Level 2. |
| 4 | Children of Echoes (Tepetlisaur) | Climb speed upgrade at Level 2. Many Pyroculi require climbing. |
| 5 | People of the Springs (Koholasaur) | Water traversal speed upgrade at Level 2. |
| 6 | Masters of the Night-Wind (Iktomisaur) | Puzzle-related upgrades. Lowest priority unless you enjoy puzzle hunting. |
Exploration Tips & Hidden Mechanics
Phlogiston Hotspots
Thermal vents (marked with orange glow on the ground) provide infinite Phlogiston regeneration while standing on them. These are placed strategically near Saurian Relics and challenge areas. If you're running out of Phlogiston mid-indwell, look for the nearest thermal vent.
Saurian Relic Fast Travel
Activated Saurian Relics (ones you've already interacted with) appear on the map and can be teleported to directly. Use them as waypoints — they're often placed near Pyroculi, chest clusters, and boss arenas.
Combat While Indwelling
You do not need to exit Saurian form to fight. All Saurians have combat abilities (Normal Attack, Charged Skill, Plunge). The Tatankasaur has the highest Saurian combat damage, followed by Qucusaur and Tepetlisaur. Saurian combat is viable for overworld enemies but not recommended for World Bosses or Domains — Saurian damage does not scale with your character's stats.
Achievement-Based Exploration
Natlan has 3 commission series tied to each tribe, each yielding 20-35 Primogems in achievements. Set your Daily Commission region to Natlan as soon as it's available to start progress on these.
Secret Tribe-Owned Areas
Each tribe territory contains one "sacred cave" or "proving ground" that only opens after reaching Reputation Level 4 with that tribe. These contain Luxurious Chests (40 Primogems each), a Tribe-exclusive 4-star weapon, and Phlogiston capacity upgrades.
