Hogwarts Legacy: Demiguise Statues and Alohomora Guide
The Demiguise Moon statues are one of Hogwarts Legacy's most important collectible hunts. There are 33 Demiguise Moons hidden across Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, and the Highlands — and collecting them is the only way to upgrade Alohomora, your lock-picking spell. Without Alohomora III, dozens of locked doors, chests, and secret rooms remain inaccessible. This guide covers the Gladwin Moon questline, the full location of every Demiguise statue, and the optimal collection route.
The Gladwin Moon Questline
Quest: "The Caretaker's Lunar Lament"
You unlock this quest automatically after completing "The Map Chamber" main story quest and reaching Level 14. The quest giver is Gladwin Moon, the Hogwarts caretaker, who can be found near the Faculty Tower Floo Flame.
Gladwin Moon explains that he has lost his collection of Demiguise statues — small figurines of the moon-like magical creature — scattered throughout the castle and surrounding areas. The catch: Demiguise statues are invisible during the day. They only reveal themselves at night. This mechanic is central to the entire collectible hunt.
Alohomora I: The First 9 Statues
Gladwin Moon requires 9 Demiguise Moons to teach you Alohomora I. These are collected exclusively within Hogwarts Castle (the first batch you find during the quest's guided section).
Quest Progression:
- Speak to Gladwin Moon near the Faculty Tower.
- He gives you a hint about the Hospital Wing. Travel there (Floo Flame: Hospital Wing).
- Find the first Demiguise statue in the Hospital Wing. Nighttime only — if it is daytime, open the map and press F/Right Stick to "Wait" until night.
- The statue glows with a blue-white shimmer. Approach and collect it.
- Return to Gladwin Moon. He mentions the Prefects' Bathroom and the Library Restricted Section.
- Collect additional statues as prompted. The quest marks 3–4 guided locations.
- Once you have collected your first 9 statues (including the guided ones and any you find independently), return to Gladwin Moon.
- He teaches you Alohomora I, which opens Level 1 locks.
Alohomora II: The Next 13 Statues
After learning Alohomora I, Gladwin Moon tells you that more Demiguise Moons are waiting to be found. He requires 13 additional statues (22 total) for Alohomora II.
This requires venturing beyond Hogwarts into Hogsmeade and the initial Highlands areas. Level 1 locks throughout the castle now become accessible, and many of them contain additional Demiguise statues — creating a satisfying unlock loop.
Return to Gladwin Moon with 22 total statues collected. He teaches you Alohomora II, which opens Level 2 locks.
Alohomora III: All 33 Statues
The final upgrade requires collecting all 33 Demiguise Moons. This includes the most remote Highlands locations, often inside locked houses in small hamlets. Level 2 locks are now accessible, and they contain the final statues.
Return to Gladwin Moon with all 33 statues. He teaches you Alohomora III, which opens Level 3 locks — the highest lock level in the game. Every locked door, chest, and secret room in Hogwarts Legacy is now accessible.

Optimal Collection Route
Since Demiguise Moons are only visible at night, your collection pattern should be:
- Fast travel to the nearest Floo Flame of each location.
- Open the map and press F/Right Stick to Wait until night.
- Collect all statues in that area before moving on.
- Repeat for the next area.
Phase 1: Hogwarts Only (9 statues)
- Collect all 10 Hogwarts statues (you only need 9 for Alohomora I).
- Hospital Wing → Library Restricted Section → Faculty Tower → Great Hall → Bell Tower Wing → Long Gallery → DADA Tower.
- Return to Gladwin Moon for Alohomora I.
Phase 2: Hogsmeade + Accessible Highlands (13 statues)
- Hogsmeade: All 13 statues. Each shop is open during the day, but statues are invisible. Wait until night.
- Upper Hogsfield, Lower Hogsfield, Aranshire, Keenbridge (Level 1 locks accessible with Alohomora I).
- Return to Gladwin Moon at 22 total for Alohomora II.
Phase 3: Remaining Highlands + Locked Hogwarts (11 statues)
- Feldcroft, Bainburgh, Pitt-upon-Ford, Marunweem, Cragcroft, Brocburrow.
- Headmaster's Office (requires Alohomora III and story progress).
- Muggle Studies Classroom (Level 1 lock, but hidden behind a secondary puzzle — use Revelio).
- Return to Gladwin Moon at 33 total for Alohomora III.
Alohomora Lock-Picking Mini-Game
The lock-picking mechanic in Hogwarts Legacy is a simple two-step process:
- Rotate the green sparks to align with the central mechanism. This unlocks the red tumbler.
- Rotate the red sparks to align with the central mechanism. This opens the lock.
Tips:
- Level 1 locks: 2–3 tumblers. Takes 5–10 seconds.
- Level 2 locks: 4–5 tumblers. Takes 15–20 seconds.
- Level 3 locks: 6–7 tumblers. Takes 20–30 seconds.
- The game auto-advances to the next tumbler when you align correctly. No penalty for failure — you can retry indefinitely.
- With Alohomora III, you can set the lock to auto-solve (Story Mode difficulty option only). This is a quality-of-life feature for players who find the mini-game tedious after dozens of locks.
What Alohomora III Unlocks
With fully upgraded Alohomora, you gain access to:
- Hogwarts Collection Chests: Roughly 30+ chests behind Level 2–3 locks containing gear, wand handles, and cosmetic items.
- Demiguise Statues: The 10 final statues in locked areas (Headmaster's Office, certain classrooms).
- Field Guide Pages: Many pages are inside locked rooms — the Revelio Pages in particular.
- Hogsmeade Shops: Back rooms, upstairs areas, and private quarters of shopkeepers — containing gear and gold.
- Highlands Hamlets: Every locked house in every hamlet — containing gear chests, gold, and occasionally rare potion recipes.
- The Headmaster's Office: The crowning locked area. Contains a legendary chest, field guide pages, and significant lore.
Tips and Tricks
- Constantly cast Revelio inside locked rooms. Many have hidden wall panels or additional puzzle mechanisms.
- Demiguise statues chime when you are near them. Listen for a distinct tinkling sound — it is a different audio cue than Revelio pages or treasure chests.
- If you miss the Sebastian quest window: Some locked areas tied to companion quests remain inaccessible if you turn Sebastian in. The Undercroft and certain Scriptorium areas, for example.
- Alohomora works on chests too — not just doors. Look for glowing locks on treasure chests throughout the game.
- Completion tracking: Open the Collections menu → Field Guide → scroll to the Demiguise Statues tab for a counter showing collected/total. Hovering shows per-region progress.
- Gladwin Moon gives additional dialogue after each Alohomora upgrade, with slightly unhinged stories about his fear of Demiguises. These are purely for entertainment.
Collectible Checklist
| Location | Total Statues | Alohomora Required |

| Hogsmeade Village | 13 | Level 1–2 |
| Highlands Hamlets | 10 | Level 1–2 |
| Total | 33 | Alohomora III |
Unlocking Alohomora III is one of the most satisfying progression milestones in Hogwarts Legacy. The world opens up dramatically — every locked door you have walked past for hours suddenly yields its secrets. Happy hunting, and may your Revelio never fail you.
