All 152 shrines organized by region: 32 Sky shrines and 120 Surface shrines with regional breakdowns. Top 10 hardest-to-find shrines with detailed solutions for cave-hidden, weather-locked, and coordinate puzzle shrines. Light of Blessing exchange strategy for Stamina vs Hearts.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom — All 152 Shrine Locations by Region

Overview

Tears of the Kingdom features 152 Shrines of Light spread across three layers: 32 in the Sky, 120 on the Surface, and zero in the Depths (the Depths contain Lightroots instead, which correspond 1:1 to Surface Shrines). Each Shrine contains a puzzle or combat challenge and rewards a Light of Blessing, which can be exchanged four at a time for a Heart Container or Stamina Vessel.

This guide organizes all 152 Shrines by region and layer, identifies the 10 hardest-to-find Shrines with exact navigation instructions, and provides a strategy for Light of Blessing allocation.

Light of Blessing Exchange Strategy

The eternal dilemma: Hearts or Stamina? The optimal allocation depends on your playstyle and goals:

PriorityRecommendationRationale
First 4 ShrinesHeart ContainerSurviving early combat requires at least 6 hearts (3 starting + 1 Great Sky Island + 4 from 16 shrines)
Next 20 ShrinesStamina WheelTwo full Stamina wheels are required to pull the Master Sword from the Light Dragon
20-60 ShrinesMix based on needBy this point, you should have armor upgrades providing defense; hearts become less critical
60+ ShrinesMax Stamina firstThree full wheels enable infinite climbing, gliding, and bullet-time duration
152 ShrinesMax bothYou end with 38 upgrades total (152/4=38), which is enough to max both hearts (up to 40 with Temples) and stamina

Important: Temple boss clears also grant Heart Containers. There are 5 temples (Wind, Fire, Water, Lightning, Spirit) plus the final boss. That adds 6 Heart Containers on top of Shrine rewards. With this, you can max both health and stamina by the time you clear all Shrines.

Sky Shrines (32 Total)

Sky Shrines are located on the various Sky Islands scattered above Hyrule's Surface. They are generally easier puzzles but harder to physically reach due to the traversal requirements. A Zonai flying machine (Hover Bike: 2 Fans + Steering Stick in a T-configuration) is practically mandatory for reaching the farthest Sky Shrines.

Great Sky Island (4 Shrines)

The tutorial island. All four are completed during the prologue:

  • Ukouh Shrine (Ultrahand)
  • In-Isa Shrine (Fuse)
  • Gutanbac Shrine (Ascend)
  • Nachoyah Shrine (Recall)

East Hebra Sky Archipelago (3 Shrines)

Accessible from the Rospro Pass Skyview Tower in Hebra. The archipelago consists of interconnected floating platforms with Fan-powered traversal. The Shrines here involve combat and advanced Ultrahand puzzles.

  • Mayaumekis Shrine
  • Kahatanaum Shrine
  • Taunhiy Shrine

West Hebra Sky (1 Shrine)

The isolated Sky Island far west of Hebra Peak. Requires a flying machine from the nearest island chain. The Shrine puzzle is a complex mirror-and-light beam sequence.

Top 10 Hardest-to-Find Shrines

1. Mayaotaki Shrine (Hebra Tundra — Cave Hidden)

Why it's hard: The Shrine is inside a cave with an entrance buried under snow. The Shrine Sensor points directly at the location but the entrance is at ground level behind an ice wall that must be melted. The snowdrift obscures the cave entrance until you're standing directly in front of it.

How to find: From the Snowfield Stable, head northwest toward the Hebra Tundra. Look for a cluster of pine trees on the western face of a small hill. Behind the trees, melt the ice wall with a fire weapon or Fire Fruit. The cave entrance is 3 meters behind the ice.

2. Teniten Shrine (Thunderhead Isles — Storm Locked)

Why it's hard: The Thunderhead Isles are permanently stormy until you complete the "Secret of the Ring Ruins" quest in Kakariko Village. Before the storm clears, visibility is 5 meters and lightning strikes every 10 seconds.

How to find: Complete the Ring Ruins quest chain (talk to Paya and Tauro in Kakariko, follow the tablets to the surface ruins). Once the storm clears, the Shrine is on the central island of the Thunderhead archipelago.

3. Joku-u Shrine (Sky Crystal Quest)

Why it's hard: Not a normal Shrine — it's a Shrine Quest requiring you to transport a green crystal from a floating platform to the Shrine pedestal through a gauntlet of obstacles.

How to find: On a Sky Island south of the Great Sky Island, find a floating sphere with a green crystal inside. Use Ultrahand to carry the crystal across floating platforms while avoiding Constructs and laser beams. The Shrine pedestal is on the far eastern edge of the island chain.

4. Jochi-ihiga Shrine (Akkala Maze — Depths Connection)

Why it's hard: The Akkala Lomei Labyrinth spans three levels: Surface maze, Sky maze, and Depths maze. The Shrine is at the end of a three-layer puzzle sequence.

How to find: Enter the Lomei Labyrinth (northeast Akkala). Solve the Surface maze to reach the center chamber. Ascend to the Sky maze via the updraft. Complete the Sky maze. Drop into the Depths from the Sky maze's center, then navigate the Depths maze. The Shrine is in the Depths labyrinth center.

5. Sisuran Shrine (Gerudo Summit — Weather Dependent)

Why it's hard: Located on the Gerudo Summit at the northernmost point of the Gerudo Highlands. The temperature fluctuates between extreme heat (day) and extreme cold (night), requiring both heat and cold resistance.

How to find: Climb Gerudo Summit from the Gerudo Highlands Skyview Tower. The Shrine is on the northern cliff face, hidden behind a rock outcropping. Use the Shrine Sensor and look for a small cave opening at approximately the 2,000-meter elevation mark.

6. Gemimik Shrine (Akkala Beach — Coordinate Puzzle)

Why it's hard: The Shrine Quest requires you to stand at specific map coordinates during a specific time of day while wearing specific armor (or without armor). The puzzle is entirely map-based with no in-game visual indicator.

How to find: At the East Akkala Stable, read the stone tablet. The riddle describes coordinates and conditions (typically "stand where the sun meets the sea" — the easternmost Akkala Beach point at dawn). The Shrine emerges from the sand when conditions are met.

7. Eshos Shrine (Dueling Peaks — Twin Puzzle)

Why it's hard: A twin Shrine puzzle where one Shrine's solution is the mirror image of the other. You must complete both Shrines (Eshos on the north peak, another on the south peak) and apply the inverse solution from one to the other.

How to find: Both Shrines are visible on the twin peaks. The north Shrine's puzzle teaches a mechanic; the south Shrine requires applying it in reverse order.

8. Mayanas Shrine (Hyrule Field — Rauru's Blessing)

Why it's hard: A Rauru's Blessing Shrine (no puzzle — the challenge is reaching it). It's located in a sealed chamber beneath a stone slab in Hyrule Field that requires either a rocket-fused shield or moving a massive slab with Ultrahand.

How to find: In Hyrule Field, east of the Coliseum Ruins, a flat stone slab sits in the middle of an open field. It's large enough to require a Zonai Rocket or a nearby boulder fused to a weapon for leverage. Once moved, the Shrine entrance is revealed.

9. Joju-u-u Shrine (Eventide Island — No Equipment)

Why it's hard: Like Breath of the Wild's Eventide Island challenge, this Shrine Quest strips you of all equipment upon landing. You must use only what you find on the island to complete the challenge.

How to find: Eventide Island (southeast corner of the Necluda Sea). Land on the island, which triggers the equipment strip. Complete three challenges (defeat a Construct, scale the peak, activate an orb pedestal) using foraged weapons and Zonai devices. The Shrine is at the peak.

10. Mogisari Shrine (Akkala Tech Lab — Combat Gauntlet)

Why it's hard: A Proving Grounds Shrine (strips equipment and forces combat with provided Zonai devices only). The Construct enemies are Tier 3 (Captain Constructs) and spawn in waves.

How to find: East of the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab, at the edge of the Akkala Sea cliff. Enter the Shrine and accept the challenge. Key strategy: Fuse the provided Spiked Iron Ball to the provided stick for maximum early damage, then use the Zonai Cannon Construct drops against later waves.

Completion Strategy

The most efficient route to 152 Shrines:

  1. Activate all 15 Skyview Towers first: Each Tower reveals a map region, making Shrine locations visible. Towers themselves are mini-challenges but the payoff (map reveal) is worth the time investment.

  2. Clear Sky Shrines second: Sky Shrines are fewer and simpler. Most are Rauru's Blessings or short puzzles. Clearing all 32 Sky Shrines gives you 8 Heart/Stamina upgrades before tackling the Surface.

  3. Surface Shrines by region: Start with Central Hyrule (easiest), then Hebra (good for cold-resistance practice), then Necluda, then Gerudo (hardest). Leave the Shrine Quests (coordinate puzzles, Eventide, maze sequences) for the end — they're the most time-consuming.

  4. Use the Shrine Sensor: After your first few Surface Shrines, you receive the Shrine Sensor upgrade from Robbie. The sensor beeps faster as you approach a Shrine. Combined with the map markers from Skyview Towers, this makes the remaining Shrines much easier to locate.

  5. Depths Lightroots as navigation: Every Lightroot in the Depths corresponds 1:1 with a Surface Shrine at the same coordinates. If you've found a Lightroot but can't find the corresponding Surface Shrine, mark the Lightroot's map position, return to the Surface, and head to those exact coordinates.
