Best money-making methods at every stage: early game Access Point hacking and gun selling, mid-game Capitan vehicle contracts and NCPD Scanner hustles, late-game weapon glitch duplication and airdrop farming. Plus skill XP sources and fast leveling routes for Headhunter, Shinobi, and Netrunner skills.

Cyberpunk 2077: Eddies Farming and Leveling Guide

Introduction

Eddies are Night City's currency, and in the 2.0+ economy, you need a lot of them. A full cyberware loadout for an endgame build costs between 500,000 and 800,000 eddies depending on your ripperdoc discounts and capacity needs. Add iconic weapon upgrades (approximately 200,000 eddies to max out 3-4 weapons) and vehicle purchases for the Autojock achievement, and a single playthrough demands roughly 2 million eddies to fully optimize.

This guide covers every efficient money-making method, organized by game phase, plus leveling strategies to accelerate skill XP and reach level 50 with minimal grind.

Early Game (Level 1-15): Access Point Hacking and Selling Guns

Method 1: Access Point Hacking

The single most profitable early-game activity that most players ignore. Every open-world gig, police scanner hustle, and main mission location has at least one Access Point — wall-mounted dataports that can be hacked for eddies and quickhack components.

How it works: Scan (Tab) → look for orange-glowing wall panels → approach and interact. You play a mini-game matching sequences in the buffer. Each completed sequence awards eddies from the access point's three datamine levels.

Profit per Access Point: Approximately 500-1,500 eddies at low levels, scaling to 2,000-3,000 at higher levels with better cyberdeck stats. With 15-20 access points accessible in Watson alone during Act 1, that's 15,000-30,000 eddies before The Heist.

Optimization: Invest in the "Datamine Virtuoso" perk (Intelligence 5) for +50% eddies from access points. The "Datamine Mastermind" perk (Intelligence 9) increases datamine duration by 100%, giving you more time to complete all three sequences for maximum payout.

Method 2: Selling Looted Weapons

Every enemy drops a weapon. Every weapon is worth eddies. In the early game, carry weight is your only constraint.

Strategy: Loot every gun from every corpse. When encumbered, use V's car trunk (any owned vehicle) to store weapons. Fast travel to the nearest Drop Point or gun vendor and sell everything. Do NOT dismantle guns in the early game — the component value is lower than the eddie value for white and green tier weapons.

Best vendors: Gun shops pay the most for weapons. Drop Points are more convenient but offer slightly lower rates. The difference is approximately 15%, so for a full inventory sale worth 10,000 eddies, you lose about 1,500 eddies at Drop Points. The 2nd Amendment gun store in Watson is the closest full-price vendor to early-game content.

Average per clear: Clearing a single NCPD Scanner Hustle yields 6-10 weapons. At green/blue tier, that's 2,000-5,000 eddies per hustle. Clearing all Watson hustles (approximately 15) before The Heist nets 40,000-70,000 eddies.

Mid Game (Level 15-30): Vehicle Contracts and NCPD Scanner

Method 3: Muamar "El Capitan" Reyes Vehicle Contracts

Unlocked after completing "Life During Wartime" (Panam's questline). El Capitan calls V with timed vehicle theft contracts. You must steal a specific vehicle from a marked location and deliver it to his garage within the time limit. The faster the delivery, the higher the payout.

Base pay: 3,500-5,000 eddies per contract. Bonus pay: Up to +3,000 eddies for perfect condition and speed. At Tier 4 (reputation), contracts can pay 8,000-10,000 eddies each. Cooldown: Approximately 5 in-game minutes between contracts. You can chain them continuously.

Optimal route: The Watson/Santo Domingo loop. After each delivery, fast travel to the nearest fast travel point to the next contract marker. Avoid North Oak contracts — the winding roads and elevation changes make speed bonuses unreliable.

Vehicles to keep: Some contracts offer vehicles for purchase after delivery. The Outlaw GTS and Quadra Type-66 "Hoon" are worth buying for their unique handling.

Method 4: NCPD Scanner Hustles (Full Clear)

At this stage, your combat build is online enough to clear Scanner Hustles efficiently. The payout increases because:

  • Enemies drop blue/purple tier weapons (higher value)
  • Hustle completion rewards include crafting specs that sell for 500-2,000 eddies each
  • The "Assault in Progress" hustles contain evidence rooms with lootable containers

Most profitable zones: Santo Domingo and Heywood. Both zones have high enemy density and reward bonuses for completing all hustles in the district. A full clear of Santo Domingo's hustles (approximately 20) nets 60,000-90,000 eddies plus the associated experience.

Efficiency tip: Use smart weapons or tech weapons for Scanner Hustles. The combat is repetitive, and auto-targeting (smart) or wall-penetration (tech) minimizes clear time. Breakthrough (the tech sniper) lets you clear entire hustles without entering the combat zone.

Late Game (Level 30-50): Advanced Methods

Method 5: Weapon Glitch Sell Loop

This is the highest-profit method in the game and has not been patched as of 2.12.

Setup: Acquire any iconic weapon and upgrade it to Tier 5. The crafting cost in components is irrelevant — the loop generates infinite components and eddies.

The loop:

  1. Find a Drop Point (any will work, but the one in Kabuki near Wakako's pachinko parlor has the shortest walk distance from a fast travel point).
  2. Sell your Tier 5 iconic weapon to the Drop Point. The weapon appears in the Drop Point's buyback inventory.
  3. Immediately use the "Weapon Glitch" quickhack on the Drop Point (any tier works — it's the breach protocol effect that temporarily disables the machine).
  4. During the glitch, the Drop Point's inventory is scrambled. The iconic weapon you just sold now costs 1 eddie to buy back.
  5. Buy it back for 1 eddie. Sell it again for full price. Repeat.

Profit per cycle: A Tier 5 iconic weapon sells for approximately 2,000-4,000 eddies. Each buyback costs 1 eddie. At 15 cycles per minute, that's 30,000-60,000 eddies per minute.

Warning: This is clearly an exploit. Use it at your own discretion. The game's economy is balanced around not doing this, and amassing millions will trivialize all purchase decisions for the rest of your playthrough.

Method 6: Airdrop Farming (Phantom Liberty)

If you own Phantom Liberty, Dogtown airdrops are the most lucrative legitimate income source.

Profit per airdrop: 3,000-6,000 eddies in looted gear, plus guaranteed Tier 5 crafting components and occasionally iconic weapon specs. Airdrop frequency: Approximately one every 10-15 minutes of real-time in Dogtown. Contested airdrops: Red smoke indicates the drop is still contested. Gold smoke indicates it's unguarded and free to loot. Loot red drops — the Barghest guards add extra loot value.

Method 7: Selling Crafting Components

If you've been dismantling weapons throughout the game, you likely have thousands of unused Tier 1-3 components. Tier 5 components are valuable for upgrades, but lower tiers accumulate faster than you can spend them.

Conversion strategy: Craft Tier 5 components from lower-tier components, then sell Tier 5 components. The conversion ratio (5:1 per tier increment) means 125 Tier 1 components = 1 Tier 5 component. One Tier 5 component sells for approximately 90 eddies.

Is it worth it? No — the component-to-eddie conversion is worse than just selling the raw weapons. Only use this if you have massive component surpluses and have already maxed out your preferred iconic weapons.

Leveling Guide: XP Sources and Optimization

Character Level (Level 1-50)

Character XP is earned from three sources:

  1. Main quest completion: 500-2,000 XP per quest (scales with quest length)
  2. Side activities: 200-800 XP per gig or NCPD Scanner Hustle
  3. Combat kills: 50-200 XP per enemy (scales with enemy tier)

Efficient path to 50: Complete all main quests → clear all NCPD Scanner Hustles (fastest XP-per-minute) → complete gigs in order of fixer tier → side jobs. Scanner Hustles have the best XP-to-time ratio because they're short, combat-focused, and cluster geographically.

Skill XP (Headhunter / Netrunner / Shinobi / Solo / Engineer)

Skills level independently of character level. Each skill governs specific perk trees and unlocks perk points at milestones (every 5 levels).

SkillHow to LevelBest Grind Method
HeadhunterKills with ranged weapons (especially headshots)Farm Pacifica beach Voodoo Boys with a pistol, aiming for headshots
NetrunnerQuickhack kills, successful breach protocolsContagion + Overheat chain on grouped enemies
ShinobiBlade kills, movement (dashing, sliding)Byakko kill chains in Valentino Alley with frequent dashing
SoloShotgun/LMG kills, damage taken while movingGuts shotgun rush into groups, intentionally taking hits
EngineerTech weapon kills, grenade kills, craftingBreakthrough charged shots through walls + Pyromania grenade spam

Headhunter fast grind: Equip a silenced pistol (Pride or any iconic), go to Pacifica beach (GIM entrance), and headshot the respawning Voodoo Boys. At level 50, a single headshot is a kill. Each kill grants 150-200 Headhunter XP. A loop of ~30 enemies takes 2 minutes and grants ~5,000 XP. From level 50 to 60 Headhunter, approximately 25 loops are needed.

Shinobi fast grind: The Byakko kill-chain method in Valentino Alley (The Glen). After each kill, dash to the next target — the dash counts as movement XP for Shinobi. Combined blade + movement XP is approximately 300 XP per enemy.

Netrunner fast grind: Find a group of 5+ enemies tightly clustered (Valentino Alley works). Upload Contagion → Overheat (detonates poison cloud) → Synapse Burnout on survivors. Each kill grants Netrunner XP. The multi-kill from Contagion spread means 5 kills in one quickhack rotation.

Perk Shards

Perk Shards are random drops that grant a free perk point. They drop from enemy kills at a low rate (approximately one every 200-300 kills). There's no reliable farm — they accumulate naturally as you clear content. By level 50 with all side content completed, you should have 70-80 perk points total (level-based) plus 10-15 from shards.

Summary: Wealth Progression Curve

PhaseLevel RangePrimary IncomeEst. Eddies/Hour
Early Game1-15Access Points + Sell Guns30,000
Mid Game15-30El Capitan Contracts + NCPD Hustles60,000
Late Game30-50Airdrops + Weapon Glitch (optional)100,000+

Following this progression, you should exit Act 1 with ~50,000 eddies, reach the mid-game with ~200,000, and enter Act 3 with 500,000+ — more than enough for a fully optimized cyberware loadout and a garage full of vehicles.
